Food And Drinks For A Healthy Heart

RED WINE

Good Housekeeping

Drinking red wine, in moderation, has been shown to be good for heart health. Research has been inconclusive as to what causes red wine’s heart-healthy effects, but studies have shown a solid correlation to red wine consumption and good heart health. The current prevailing assumption is that the reseveratrol in red wine, an antioxidant that is found in the skin of grapes, is the key ingredient in red wine’s ability to reduce bad cholesterol, increase good cholesterol, and regulate or lower blood pressure.

However, there is still some debate as to whether it is indeed the resveratrol that is to be thanked for this benefit, or if there are other factors in a red wine drinker’s lifestyle that could be contributing to their heart health. Also, the daily recommended intake for resveratrol has yet to be established. The current indicators point to the problematic fact that, to get the full recommended daily intake of resveratrol solely from red wine, one would have to drink excessive amounts of red wine. Consuming excessive amounts of alcohol, which is what would happen if one were to consume excessive amounts of red wine, is actually bad for the heart. Whether it is the resveratrol or not, the data is consistent, and has remained consistent over the years, that drinking red wine has shown a correlation to healthy hearts.
