FISH RICH IN OMEGA-3

US News Health

The American Heart Association recommends eating fish rich in omega-3 fatty acids, at least twice a week. Great examples of such fish include, but are not limited to, salmon, mackerel, tuna, cod, herring, trout, and sardines. Canned sardines and canned tuna, or any other canned fish, do not present a substantial reduction in the amount of Omega-3 fatty acids, and therefore should be a suitable substitute to fresh fish, if fresh fish is not available. However, it is important to mindfully choose the canned fish with the least sodium and sugar in it. Read the label and choose wisely. The higher the sodium content listed in the nutrition label, the more of the “extra sodium” you will get into your bloodstream (and remember, you do not want that).

The importance of Omega-3 fatty acids is actually very direct to the heart. Omega-3 fatty acids, among other heart-health benefits, regulate heart beat and prevent irregular heart rhythms that often can lead to heart attacks.
