Risk Factors of Vertigo

Medicinenet

Anyone can develop symptoms of vertigo, especially those who suffer any of the conditions that can cause it. But certain factors increase your risk of vertigo.

Being a woman, being over 50 years of age, or having a history of head trauma may all increase your risk.

You also have a greater chance of developing vertigo if you have cardiovascular disease, a recent ear infection that may cause an imbalance in the inner ear, or are taking medications such as antidepressants and antipsychotics.

Other factors that may increase your likelihood of developing vertigo include having had a previous episode of vertigo, having a family member who suffers from vertigo, undergoing high levels of stress, and drinking alcohol.
