Although the majority of the cases of peripheral vertigo may be attributed to one of the conditions discussed, a smaller number of cases results from one of the following rarer causes:
1. Perilymphatic Fistula (PLF)
A perilymphatic fistula (PLF) is an abnormal tear in one or both of the membranes that separate your middle ear from your inner ear. It may be a result of one of a number of things, including head trauma, ear trauma, a perforated eardrum, sudden pressure changes, and other causes.
The tear causes the fluid called perilymph that is found in the perilymphatic space of your inner ear to leak into your middle ear. This can cause changes in pressure in the middle ear, which can affect your hearing and balance. One of the rarer symptoms of this condition is vertigo.
