3. Vestibular Neuritis or Labyrinthitis
These two conditions are closely related but have slight differences.
Vestibular neuritis is caused by an inflammation of your vestibular nerve, which is the nerve in your ear that is responsible for balance. The inflammation may disrupt the signals sent to your brain and may cause you to feel disoriented.
On the other hand, labyrinthitis is an inflammation of both the vestibular nerve and the cochlear nerve. The latter sends signals to your brain about hearing, and inflammation of this nerve can cause a ringing in your ears or a problem with hearing.
Both conditions trigger symptoms of vertigo.
