Some cases of vertigo may be treated with medication to relieve symptoms such as nausea or motion sickness. The type of drug prescribed may also depend on the cause of vertigo.

The most commonly used medications are vestibular blocking agents (VBAs) such as antihistamines, benzodiazepines, and antiemetics.

Antibiotics or steroids may be prescribed if your vertigo is caused by an inflammation or an infection.

If you have Meniere’s disease, your doctor might give you diuretics or water pills to reduce the pressure caused by fluid buildup.
