Some of the tests to evaluate vertigo include the following:
1. Head-Thrust Test – This involves looking at the examiner’s nose. The examiner moves his or her head quickly to one side while watching for correct eye movement.
2. Romberg Test – With this test, you start by standing with your feet together and both eyes open. You then close your eyes and try to keep your balance.
3. Fukuda-Unterberger Test – To do this test, you will be asked to march in place with your eyes closed. You should be able to do this without leaning from side to side.
4. Dix-Hallpike Test – The test begins with you seated on an examination table. You are then quickly lowered to a supine position while your head is facing either slightly to the left or slightly to the right. Your eye movements during the exam can reveal more about your vertigo.
Imaging tests such as computerized tomography (CT) scan and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can help identify the cause of your vertigo. You may also be asked to undergo hearing tests, vision tests, allergy tests, or blood work, depending on your case.
