8 Reasons Why You Have A High Liver Enzyme Count

8. Cirrhosis of the Liver

News Medical

Cirrhosis of the liver is when healthy liver tissue is replaced by scar tissue, causing permanent damage to the liver. It is also considered a late-stage result of liver disease, which means that there has already been previous damage brought about by other conditions that affect the liver, like hepatitis, non-alcohol related fatty liver disease, and alcohol use disorder to name a few. Despite the severity of this disease, the liver can still function, although liver enzymes will rise and eventually it will cause liver failure, causing serious complications where either dialysis or a liver transplant may be the only possible answer to the liver failure. Although cirrhosis is chronic, there are treatments that can be done to help manage it and slow its progression.
