The urethra is the tube in your urinary system connected to the bladder where urine passes on the way to the urethral orifice where it comes out of the body. When you have an inflammation of the urethra, you have what is called urethritis. This is commonly caused by a bacterial infection, and can usually be cured with antibiotics. It is characterized by pain during urination, a frequent urge to urinate, or difficulty in urinating. Even when you are not urinating or don’t feel the need to do so, you may experience pain, itching, or discomfort.

Urinary tract infections are usually easily treated with antibiotics, so you should get checked as soon as you suspect you might have one. Healthy habits could also help you prevent getting UTI. Avoid holding urine for long, peeing as soon as you feel the urge to. After urinating, make sure you wipe from front to back. Finally, drink a lot of water. It is good not only for your urinary system, but also for the rest of your body!
