17. Kidney Infection
Kidney infection occurs when germs from the urinary tract move up the urethra and infect one or both kidneys. The bacteria that cause kidney infections usually originate in another region of the urinary tract, such as the bladder, ureters, or urethra. Kidney infections are most common in persons who already have a bladder infection, in women, and in pregnant women. People who have kidney infection symptoms should get medical assistance as soon as possible since the ailment can cause irreversible kidney damage or spread to other parts of the body.
