22. Caffeine

Caffeine is a naturally occurring substance that has stimulant properties. It’s in coffee, tea, cola, chocolate, guarana, yerba mate, and more than 60 other things. Caffeine acts by stimulating the central nervous system, heart, muscles, and blood pressure control regions. Caffeine can elevate blood pressure, however it may not have this impact in persons who use it frequently. Caffeine can also function as a “water pill,” increasing urine output. Caffeine is often used to improve mental alertness, headaches, migraines, sports performance, memory, and obesity. It is also used to treat asthma, gallbladder disease, ADHD, low blood pressure, depression, and a variety of other illnesses, but most of these other uses lack scientific basis. Caffeine products that are highly concentrated or pure pose a health risk. People can easily consume far too high doses by accident. It is prohibited in the United States to sell these items in quantity to customers. Caffeine consumption is permitted within limitations by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Urine concentrations greater than 15 mcg/mL are not permitted. Caffeine is considered safe for most healthy adults in dosages up to 400 mg daily when taken orally. This is roughly equivalent to 4 cups of coffee. Caffeine may be dangerous if used for an extended period of time or in doses greater than 400 mg per day. Caffeine has been linked to insomnia, anxiousness, restlessness, nausea, elevated heart rate, and other negative side effects. Larger doses may result in headaches, anxiety, and chest pain. Caffeine is probably dangerous in excessive dosages. It can lead to irregular heartbeats and, in extreme cases, death. Products containing exceptionally concentrated or pure caffeine have a considerable danger of being consumed in excessively high amounts. Avoid consuming these items.
