Restless legs syndrome can be either primary or secondary. The primary form is frequently hereditary, but the secondary form is primarily related with uremia, iron insufficiency, or pregnancy. Almost all people suffering from restless legs syndrome have recurrent leg movements while sleeping. According to one study, restless legs syndrome may emerge as a result of spinal cord lesions caused by a variety of disorders, including multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury, and cervical spondylotic myelopathy. Restless legs syndrome caused by myelopathy, like idiopathic restless legs syndrome and other secondary types, may respond well to dopaminergic medications.
