16. Vitamin and mineral deficiency
One of the most common causes of RLS is iron insufficiency. Iron supplements have been found in several studies to help relieve RLS symptoms. A simple blood test can detect iron deficiency, so consult your doctor if you suspect you may be suffering from it. If you are iron deficient, your doctor may advise you to take oral iron supplements, which are available at your local pharmacy. Intravenous (IV) iron may be required in some circumstances. Furthermore, vitamin D insufficiency may be connected to RLS. In a 2014 study, vitamin D pills were observed to decrease RLS symptoms in persons with RLS and vitamin D deficiency. Vitamin C and E doses may also help persons on hemodialysis improve RLS symptoms. Treatment is critical because of the consequences RLS can have on your life. Because the underlying etiology of RLS is unknown, treatment options vary. Some studies believe RLS is caused by issues with the brain chemical dopamine, while others believe it is caused by inadequate circulation.
