When your body doesn’t get as much water as it needs, you may become dehydrated. The severity depends on how much liquid your body is lacking. One of the effects that this can have on your body is a prolonged period of coughing. Dehydration makes the lining or your sinuses and airways dry and prone to irritation. This can lead to persistent coughing. If your cough is caused by dehydration, you could remedy this by targeting the cause. Hydrate yourself with water, hot broth, or tea. Alcohol and caffeine are not recommended as these may cause further dehydration.
