10 Signs Your Moles Are Malignant

10. Slow-Healing Moles

Although moles and skin areas can be scraped, bumped, and cut, a good mole should heal rapidly. According to physicians, if it does not heal after three weeks, it might be an indication of skin cancer, which includes melanoma, basal cell, and squamous cell cancers. That cancer warning applies even if the bleeding or leaking occurs only infrequently; if the skin sore cures and then recurs; or if a scab forms and takes a few weeks to heal. If a mole is bleeding due to a scratch or injury, use a cotton ball soaked in rubbing alcohol to disinfect the area and help stop the bleeding. You should also apply a bandage to the affected region. Avoid getting glue on the region of skin where your mole is located. Most moles do not require treatment, but those that continue to bleed should be evaluated by a dermatologist. They can tell you what’s wrong and whether you need the mole biopsied. Your dermatologist may advise you to get the mole removed as an outpatient surgery in their clinic. After the mole is removed, it will be examined to see whether there are any cancer cells present. When a mole is removed, it typically does not return. If the mole reappears, contact your healthcare professional at once.
